Places to Eat
Zum Guten Hirten in Salzburg – Authentic Austrian food enjoyed by locals. The Austrian classics, Schnitzel and Strudel were both insanely good (and cheap!)
Zanoni & Zanoni in Vienna – cakes, pastries, ice creams galore.
- Schlosspark Hellbrunn – Palace built in the 1600’s, complete with picturesque park and grounds. Famed for being the home of the ’16 going on 17′ pavilion from the film The Sound of Music.
- Untersberg – Walking on a trail from the aforementioned Schlosspark Hellbrunn you come to an open trail that gives spectacular views over Mount Watzmann and Untersberg which dominates the surrounding skyline.
Hohensalzburg Castle / Salzburg Fortress – impossible to miss as it sits atop a hill in the centre of Salzburg. I didn’t do it but you can take a walk up the fortress itself for views over the city.
Mirabell Palace and Gardens – part of the Historic Centre of the City of Salzburg UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Belvedere Palace (Vienna) – there are a number of grand Castles and Palaces in Vienna, but this is one of the more majestic.
Hundertwasserhaus (Vienna) – architecture gone mad. Loved the atheistic of this house but there isn’t a whole lot to explore other than to take in all the craziness.
